How did your Home Lovin’ go this week?

Last week when I started Home Lovin’ Thursday, my house was in complete disarray. I couldn’t see the dining table anymore (except when I shoved everything up one end so we could eat dinner), and one of my kitchen surfaces wasn’t far behind! The beds needed making, there was clothes strewn all over the bathroom, and there was an army of stuffed animals and dolls invading my lounge room. Overflowing laundry basket(s) of clothes to be folded. It all needed to be tidied before I could even think of real cleaning – vacuuming, mopping, dusting.

It was all rather overwhelming, and that was the build up over only a couple of days where I’d been unwell and really couldn’t face anything much, let alone domestic duties.

It bothered me to look at the dining table and kitchen counter dumping grounds that seemed to attract more and more clutter as the minutes ticked by. I procrastinated and blogged the first Home Lovin’ Thursday to make myself accountable for the cleanliness I craved.

I didn’t go about my chores straight away. However, I surfed the net for inspiration. I remembered someone discussing FlyLady a long while back. I Googled her and found her. She looked a bit hard core for me, but I did find some strategies that have worked for me this week.

The FlyLady talks about Hot Spots – the dumping grounds that attract clutter. Bingo! She’s seen my dining table and kitchen counter. So I dutifully took her advice and did 2 minutes of Hot Spot clearing twice a day. Surprise, surprise! I have had a clear table and counter all week. Excluding last night, when I was cutting and pasting for my kindy assignment *sigh* I shouldn’t complain, at least I had a large, CLEAN workspace to do it!

Flying around the site, I found some daily missions. I attended a couple of these because they were things that needed doing and never get done, though they continue to torment me. I cleaned the ceiling fan in the bathroom which I think probably had 50 years of dust build up, and while the ladder was inside, I cleaned all the black hand prints off the manhole from my recent roof visitors (electrician and pest inspector). Are you impressed? I am. Having spent the 2 years I’ve spent in this house intending to clean the dust off the ceiling fan each time the ladder comes inside.

My overflowing laundry baskets are currently empty. I’m trying to make a habit of folding and putting away as soon as the stuff comes off the line, and Grey’s Anatomy is the perfect time for a bit of ironing.

Boo is also getting in on the act. She has had a few chores thrown into her routine this past week, and is really enjoying her responsibilities, though the novelty will wear off very soon, I imagine!

There is still a lot of decluttering to do. There is work to do in the garden. I don’t actually want to even think about the playroom, or the inside of cupboards but I plan to tackle them all…

S-L-O-W-L-Y!

So my plans today, after the kindy mum’s morning tea at IKEA (because when your kids go to school 5 mins from the Swedish sensation, why wouldn’t you), after a trip to the dentist, a quick vacuum, and a couple of loads of washing, I plan to do something decadent like lie on the couch and read my book before kindy pick-up. Lovin’ the fact that there is no mess that I need to deal with (except in the other half of the house) :)

Oh dear, my Home Lovin’ hasn’t really gotten off the ground this week – unless I cheat and count the garden clearing You have inspired me though, and some of those flylady ideas might … just… work. I’m not one to be pinned down to one day, so my Home Lovin’ exploits attempts might end up on any day of the week.

Well done you, though! Well done! Keep up the good work!! (How did the dreaded Kindy Mums’ morning tea go?)

Wo-hooo! I´m very impressed, really! Argh, that lady must´ve seen my kitchen table, too! Be sure I try this 2 minutes of Hot Spot clearing twice a day!!! 2 minutes only?!

That ceiling-fan… yupp, have a good read on the couch after that! :-)

    Very inspiring post, thank you!

Hmmm… IKEA. Haven´t been there for… months? Do I need more clutter? ;-)

Sarah – I think you and I are on the same mission :)

SunnyRoad – It was so nice to enjoy couch time and not feel like I should be cleaning

Tracey – Garden clearing is not cheating, it counts significantly. You’ve done huge amounts on making your home/garden more loveable.

Most of my jobs were done by Thursday, which meant I could lie on the couch and appreciate and love my home.

Iris – There is always something you NEED from IKEA!
