Miss Boo snuck up to me, and curled up on my knee. She looked very forlorn and said in a sad little voice

"Sleep isn’t coming. I’ve been in bed for a long time but sleep won’t come.”

For the previous half an hour (we won’t mention the half hour before that), I have heard things clattering and banging. I have heard her talking to the dolls who share her bed. I have heard her climbing in and out of bed (floorboards will give you away most of the time).

Can I just snuggle on your lap and fall asleep?”

What? You think the sad little voice and the forlorn look will make me think you’ve been trying to sleep?

However, it’s perfect acting, so I decide to play along.

Me (feigning deep concern): Oh my poor little baby! Why do you think you can’t go to sleep?

Boo (jumping up bright as a button): Because I wasn’t trying *giggle giggle* (and the most adorable look on her face).

Sometimes bedtime dramas are cute and cuddly moments, sometimes they are dark and growly moments. Rarely in this house is there NO bedtime drama.
