Warning. Warning. Study Alert

2010 March 1

Today is a public holiday for most people here.

University doesn’t recognise this as a public holiday. Today is my first day.

I am a bit scared and anxious this morning. I feel like I am starting at a new school, and a much bigger new school. The thought of studying and assignments, and achieving this is causing much self-doubting.

I’ve studied a fair bit in the past, always while working. I did my nursing diploma in a hospital where I would spend four to six weeks with 8am to 5pm lectures, with exams and assignments needing to be completed whilst working full time shift work.

I completed a Bachelor of Science whilst working in a gym and private training, with the odd nursing shift thrown in. I completed my midwifery in a hospital while working full time shift work, as I did my lactation certificate.

The thought of fitting in study whilst working doesn’t phase me too much. I’ve pulled all-nighters to complete assignments. I’ve spent complete weekends cramming for exams.

What is daunting is fitting all this in and being a sole parent. I will be evil, grumpy mummy if I have to pull an all-nighter. There is no possibly of using whole weekends to study.

Procrastination won’t be an option this time round.

Super organisation will be required.

We’re about to step on to the rollercoaster, with some luck Boo and I will step off unscathed at the end of semester.

I couldn’t manage a TAFE course not as a single parent, so I admire you immensely. (Mind you, when Himself is not home till anything between 7pm and 9pm most nights, maybe there’s some single parenting involved round here.) Still, MB – one kid, who you can probably still get into bed at a sensible time – you might just be able to pull it off! Good time to do it now I think before the after school stuff gets insane.

You’ll shoe it in, you will.

It’s the perfectionist in you that’s making you stress.
You probably know more than the lecturers do :)
