Always Wear Your Bike Helmet
One of my best friend’s was seriously injured last week while riding her bike. She was hit by a car from behind.
She has a fractured spine, and has had some plastic surgery work on her leg. It will still be a couple of weeks, until the swelling in her spine goes down enough to know whether she will walk again.
This is my girlfriend who lives in Kuala Lumpur. I feel helpless sitting here a few hundred dollars and a 5 hour flight away. I’ve looked at the airfares… and right at this moment they’re out of my ballpark ![]()
She lay on the roadside for 40 minutes in agony. The first ambulance that arrived had no spinal board or neck brace to move her, and NO DRUGS!
This is someone who earns her living as a personal trainer and running her own gym. She runs marathons and trains several hours a day. This is someone, who even if they walk again, will struggle with being less active.
She’s strong and she’ll fight to get back to her former self, but it will be a hard battle and a long fight.
She’s alive and that’s all that matters for now.
Her message to all of you is bike helmets save lives

God, so scary… my husband cycles to work almost everyday and there are moments when I think “what if” but I can’t let myself think about the worst case scenario. I will be hoping for a good and quick recovery for your friend… xx

I always forget about bike helmets, they are not that popular where I come from. My husband always gets angry with me about it and with a good reason. I hope your friend recovers soon!

How terrifying for her to be laying there for 40 minutes.
I can’t even imagine what she is going through. Please let her know that kind healing thoughts are being sent her way.

Kelley @ magnetoboldtoo recently posted..Because after the last post, CLEARLY people don’t read what I write not even the title which clearly spelled out my entire point. So here is a post full of pictures of something that I celebrate in a total heathen way, the coming of SANTA. But I don’t have to worry about people getting their knickers in a knot about me not believing that the son of god was born on 25 December and I am just in it for the gifts and the decorations… no they will probably notice a speck on the wall or the floor and be all OMG KELLEY IS THE WORST HOUSEKEEPER EVER WE MUST CALL SOCIAL SERVICES. Fuck you and ho motherfucking ho.*
Oh my. I hope your GF is okay – looks nasty. We *always* tell Monet to wear her helmet – even if she’s just riding up and down our street, as other kids ride around helmet-less-ness… This is a good lesson.

Thanks all for your kind words and wishes. Jodie still has no movement or feeling in her legs but she has started to get some tingling and pins and needles sensations, so hoping this a good sign.
Wow, I’m so sorry your friend is having to go through all of this. I can’t even imagine what it must be like and I’ll keep her in my thoughts that she will make a full recovery. My brother was hit by a car when we were kids, he bounced off the bonnet head first and even though he was wearing a helmet he was still knocked unconscious. It could have been worse, no helmet and he would have been seriously injured, brain damaged or dead. I am with you on the importance of helmets.
