Boo has been chomping at the bit to start Year 1. She has been looking forward to finally having her own desk, and she is eager to start learning.

Not to mention, finally having the proper school uniform (as opposed to the sports uniform she wore in pre-primary).

In fact Boo has been so eager to learn she’s insisted we do homework almost every day of the school holidays! She has almost completed the whole of the IXL Maths for Year 1’s, she has  worked hard on her reading, and has completed all the work in her homework book for Term 1!

Who knows what the teacher will have left to teach her?

She cannot wait for next week when she starts guitar lessons even though she has to give up part of her lunch break.

Unfortunately, we’ve had some issues in the first week thanks to PsychoParent I’ve spent hours at the school but am thankful her allegations targeted at Boo have been unfounded, but my poor little Miss has had a disrupting and stressful start to the new school year.

How was the beginning of your school year?

Princess Boo loves a bit of pampering. She loves it on the rare occasion she gets to come to the salon for a mini-manicure and pedicure. She loves having her feet, head and back massaged.

I can only blame myself… or her numerous overseas Aunts who first enticed her to the salon for a mini-manicure and pedicure for her 3rd birthday, prior to a wedding we attended in Abu Dhabi (where every second shop is a salon or spa)!

I can also blame Grandma who on our numerous trips to Bali has always taken Princess Boo for a foot or head massage down the beach.

At the ripe old age of 6, I figured the Little Princess Spa package was right up her alley. I had concerns that she wouldn’t last through 2 hours of pampering.

Oh how wrong I was to be concerned!

We were in fits of giggles before our massages as Princess Boo donned adult size disposable knickers, and ran around our massage tables like a child of Tarzan!

I never heard a sound from Princess Boo in the half hour during her massage, and then I heard her whisper incredulously “Mum, she’s rubbing sand on me!”

Me and the 2 Balinese massage ladies again were in fits of laughter as we explained body scrubs. We also then had to explain body masque as the cream she was smothered in began to dry a bit like wax.

As I enjoyed the rest of my massage, body scrub and masque, Princess Boo was whisked away for her manicure and pedicure.

After my pampering session, I found Princess Boo enjoying a blow dry after her hair wash and scalp massage.

She has begun asking if we can do the same thing in Perth. I am yet to find a spa and/or salon that has a package for little girls, and for a reasonable cost. I think it will just have to be a special treat on our overseas trips!

Boo had her ballet concert on Sunday night. This year’s production was Enid Blyton’s  The Enchanted Wood and Boo was a canary. A canary sounds a much more plausible ballet role than last year’s (beautiful) jellyfish role.

This year, Boo’s ballet academy celebrated it’s 60th Birthday. In 60 years, there has never been the costume debacles that occurred this year!

Boo had a dress rehearsal on Thursday evening. This should actually be called a stage rehearsal as the costumes that were promised 2 weeks ago, still had not arrived.

There was a dress rehearsal on Friday evening. Some costumes had arrived, and bits of others had arrived. The canaries had nothing, nada, zilch!

The dressmaker who had worked with the academy for 25 years did not deliver!

But of course the show must go on!

A small army of mums and friends pulled together. Several trips to Spotlight and the Ballet Shop later (and a lot of cutting, pinning, velcro and hard labour),  the show went on Saturday and Sunday night.

And if you weren’t in the know, you would never have guessed that The Great Costume Debacle of 2011 had even occurred!

So with a few yellow feathers, a piece of yellow cardboard, and some sparkly yellow fabric pinned to her shoulders, Boo’s normal ballet clothes were transformed into a gorgeous canary costume (and between you and me it was the best costume of the concert)!

Boo danced beautifully, and if you haven’t worked it out already was a real DIVA on the evening! Like all ballerina’s she was rewarded from her family in flowers.
