Princess Boo loves a bit of pampering. She loves it on the rare occasion she gets to come to the salon for a mini-manicure and pedicure. She loves having her feet, head and back massaged.
I can only blame myself… or her numerous overseas Aunts who first enticed her to the salon for a mini-manicure and pedicure for her 3rd birthday, prior to a wedding we attended in Abu Dhabi (where every second shop is a salon or spa)!
I can also blame Grandma who on our numerous trips to Bali has always taken Princess Boo for a foot or head massage down the beach.
At the ripe old age of 6, I figured the Little Princess Spa package was right up her alley. I had concerns that she wouldn’t last through 2 hours of pampering.
Oh how wrong I was to be concerned!
We were in fits of giggles before our massages as Princess Boo donned adult size disposable knickers, and ran around our massage tables like a child of Tarzan!
I never heard a sound from Princess Boo in the half hour during her massage, and then I heard her whisper incredulously “Mum, she’s rubbing sand on me!”
Me and the 2 Balinese massage ladies again were in fits of laughter as we explained body scrubs. We also then had to explain body masque as the cream she was smothered in began to dry a bit like wax.
As I enjoyed the rest of my massage, body scrub and masque, Princess Boo was whisked away for her manicure and pedicure.
After my pampering session, I found Princess Boo enjoying a blow dry after her hair wash and scalp massage.
She has begun asking if we can do the same thing in Perth. I am yet to find a spa and/or salon that has a package for little girls, and for a reasonable cost. I think it will just have to be a special treat on our overseas trips!
Love – Revisiting An Old Post

Instead I’m sharing my most favourite post on my blog from way back in 2009.
Love…
How is it, that when you think you love your child as much as you possibly can, your heart almost explodes out of your chest with even more love?
This is how I’ve felt with Boo the past few weeks. The love I feel for that child, sometimes engulfs me and suffocates me… not that I’m complaining. It just astounds me that I can possibly love her anymore than I already do.
Today, I see my baby has long gone. Replaced by a super-confident, super-independent little girl who is extremely kind and thoughtful, well mannered and an absolute pleasure to spend time with (mostly).
She has grown too… 3 inches in 2 months and skipped a shoe size. The baby size and looks are rapidly departing as we speed toward being 4 years old.
Don’t get me wrong, she is like any pre-schooler and has her ‘special’ moments, and in fact she has probably been naughtier this past week than she has been in her life. Then the moments pass, I look at her and my heart wells with love, and I just want to bundle her up and cuddle her.
My little girl gives the best cuddles in the world.
I love the way she climbs into my bed in the night and strokes my hair and whispers “Excuse me, I love you, sweetie,” and plants a damp kiss on my cheek before promptly being fast asleep.
I’d like to bottle her now, and keep her like this forever and ever…

And today I’m feeling much the same about Boo as I felt back then… mind you most days I have moments like that ![]()

Boo went Trick or Treating for the first time this evening. I had been umming and ahhing about whether or not we were going to head out for Halloween but then my sister-in-law mentioned her kids were going.
In three years, I have seen one Trick or Treater visit my house. In the next suburb, where Boo’s cousins live, A.L.L the kids are out Trick or Treating. It’s also a neighbourhood that goes all out with Christmas lights!
So Boo and her cousins, donned Halloween costumes and headed out with hordes of children to roam the streets begging for treats!!!
I think Boo and the devilish Bella, came home with over a kilo of treats each, and had an awesome night that they didn’t want to end! My nephew took a moment to have a photo with the girls, but went off with his friends, far too grown up to have little ghoulish girls, and his mum and aunty in tow!
Will we Trick or Treat again?
Of course! We are going to spend every Halloween over in the cousins neighbourhood ![]()

Pussycat, Pussycat, where have you been?
I’ve been to Perth to visit the Queen!
Boo had been at me for weeks to take her to the Queen’s Sausage Sizzle Traditional Aussie BBQ in Perth. When you are 5 (or very almost 6), Queen’s are very important. The belief that one day you will be swept off your feet by Prince Charming, become a Princess, then a Queen and live happily ever after in the castle is still a very realistic possibility!
In Boo’s case, the belief is not just a possibility, it is a probability. Apparently, she will be marrying Prince Christian of Denmark, who she will meet by making best friend’s with Princess Isabella etc etc!
Back to the Queen’s Sausage Sizzle. After my myriad of excuses as to why we were not going, I caved to the pressure of my persuasive daughter. Remembering vividly, seeing the Queen myself when I was a child, and how that was etched in my memory, I could not deny Boo the chance to see the Queen.
There was an expectation that 100 – 200 000 people would turn out for the Sausage Sizzle. Boo was made well aware of the fact that it was quite likely, we may not even catch a glimpse of the Queen with that many people.
After ballet we jumped on board the city-bound train (most of the city was in lock down and public transport was free thanks to the Queen and CHOGM). We joined the throngs of people headed towards the BBQ.
Unfortunately, we hit a snag!
The road we (and the other 100 000 people) needed to cross was not crossable! The police were letting a few people through at a dribble of about 20 every 5-10 mins!
Boo managed to end up by the barricade, and I made the decision that the best option was to stay exactly where we were as the Queen was going to drive right by us.
The Queen did drive right past us. The motorcade that was making a 2 minute journey from Government House to the foreshore however was trying to make the journey in 1 minute!!! And unfortunately, the Queen was sitting in the right side of the Land Rover and we were on the left side!
Boo did get a good glimpse of the Queen’s silhouette and of Prince Philip’s arm waving out the window… And thought it was all rather boring except for the prospect of getting an icecream because she wasn’t getting a sausage!
So there was a 100 000 people at the Sausage Sizzle and another 100 000+++ trapped in the city due to an uncrossable road, and poor planning by the WA Government to actually accomodate the 200 000 people they expected and catered sausages for!!!
On the homeward bound train, it seemed very few got across the road, and Boo and I were amongst the lucky ones who got a glimpse, and made the Great Attempt to see the Queen.
Boo did say she felt like she was in a fairytale seeing the Queen and the Prince drive past. Even though we really didn’t see the Queen, I’m glad we went, even that little glimpse at Royalty brought a little bit of magic to my Princesses day.
